KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has claimed to have prevented corruption worth billions in the procurement.
Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the MoD said on Wednesday that previously the procurement process was marred by corruption but things have improved enormously now. He noted that some seven billion afghanis have been saved from corruption. Waziri added that this amount has been used to pay advanced salaries to the members of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
“The ministry has saved seven billion afghanis in the procurement contracts, this money was going into the pockets of individuals. The contracts, which were previously estimated at around 500 millions have now been awarded for just 150 million because the process is transparent this time”, he said.
The MoD spokesman added that the saved money has been made available for the troops. Highlighting the triumphs on the war front, he said that more than 10, 000 militants have been killed in the ongoing Shafaq and Zulfiqar offensives by the ANSF. Waziri added that the security forces are ready to take on the rebels in winter as part of the Shafaq-II offensives.
