KABUL (SW) – The government has saved billions of afghanis due to the reformed procurement process in the past four years, officials claimed on Thursday.
Humayun Qayumi, caretaker minister for the Ministry of Finance, told a moot in Kabul that a total of 2697 contracts have been approved by the National Procurement Authority (NPA) after careful review in the past four years. He added up to 20 items, which were imported in the past, are now produced domestically.
Qayumi announced the procurement process would be digitalize in the coming two years to ensure complete transparency.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive officer of the government, hailed the NPA. He said the procurement process was marred by irregularities in the past, but it has improved after the formation of the NPA.
Since the formation of the NPA, all contracts and biddings by public entities are evaluated at this body.
