MAIMANA (SW) – Hundreds of family members of the security forces remain under the siege of the Taliban in Faryab’s Kohistan district that fell to the rebels over a month ago.
A number of stranded civilians informed Salam Watandar they are rapidly running out of food supplies, and even forced to consume waste and horse meat.
Mohammad Nasir Khan, district police chief of Kohistan, informed the road network in Kohistan has been closed for the past five years, but the fall of the district to the Taliban some 50 days ago further aggravated life of the locals.
In the meantime, Dr. Nazeebullah Fayeq, governor of Faryab province, has acknowledged these issues. He said the Afghan security forces are unable to clear the road network leading to Kohistan, hence the NATO forces should help them here.
