MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW): Atta Mohammad Noor, the governor of Balkh province, expressed on Tuesday his intensions to resign from his pots.

Addressing a gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif city in connection with the ‘Nawroz’ (New Year), Noor hinted he aims to nominate himself for the upcoming presidential race. In his speech, the governor said he is thankful to the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani for having confidence in him, and re-appointing him as governor.

Noor, who is the chief executive of the Jamiat-i-Islami party, said he would consult with his friends and allies about his next move. Differences between him and his party mate Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government (NUG), surged when Noor vehemently criticized Abdullah. The Balkh governor said he regreted supporting Abdullah as Jamiat’s candidate in the 2014 Presidential Elections. Noor called Abdullah incompetent.

The CEO of the NUG declined to publically comment on the allegations levelled against him by Noor.
