PUL-E-KHOMRI (SW): A number of civil society activists, religious scholars and provincial council members from Dand-e-Ghori, Dand-d-Shahbuddin and other restive districts in the province gathered to protest against the casualties inflicted upon civilians in the fight between security forces and the militants there.
The protesters warned that if the civilians are killed either by the security forces or the militants, they would launch an even greater march against it.
Abdul Qudos Tarakheyl, one of the protestors, said that following the signing of a security agreement, the fighting has been flaring up and causing civilians’ casualties. “We organized this demonstration to unite people to unanimously say no to the fighting in Dand-d-Ghori and other areas in the province”, he said.
According to some reports, thousands families have been displaced due to increasing insecurity in Baghlan.
Mohammad Jabar Ansari and Mawlawi Mohammad Hassan, two protestors, told Salam Watandar that the local government has not done anything to address the challenges of the displaced families.
“Civilians lost their homes, lost their lives, children are also being killed, how long will it continue? Our voices have always fallen to the deaf ears”, they complained.
It has been nearly a month since the Operation Khurshid 20 has been launched to clear the area of the militants but civil activists said that the security forces have yet to make any progress in the restive areas.
