BADAKHSHAN (SW): The local officials in Badakhshan said after fierce battles between the Taliban and the government forces, the district collapsed on Thursday.
Officials said the Taliban had surrounded the district for the past two days and finally took over the district at around 9 pm on Thursday.
Abdul Rahman Talat, a member of Badakhshan provincial council said the district fell to the group because of the lack of reinforcement troops needed and the police command of Kohistan district and the center of the district have been seized by the Taliban without any conflict.
According to Talat, the security forces were deployed in two kilometres distance from the center of the district, however, the Taliban have broken into the buildings of the police command in Kohistan and the center of the district destroying the windows and doors of the buildings to give themselves sanctuary.
Talat added that local government in Badakhshan and the central government have no intention to defeat the Taliban in Badakhshan.
