Badakhshan residents faced with soaring prices of commodities

FAIZABAD (SW): Locals in Badakhshan province are faced with soaring prices of basic commodities owing to road closures due to heavy snow, and presence of the Taliban.

Talabuddin Qaderi, member of the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar that the residents in the districts are worst affected by the situation. He said the prices of basic commodities have sky-rocketed, and are out of the reach of common people.

The PC member cited example of rice that is now being sold at up to AFN 130 per kilo. He also criticized the provincial government for failing to put in place a contingency plan for the stranded population amid such circumstances.

Meanwhile, Faisal Baigzad, the provincial governor, has discarded this criticism. He claimed the government and aid agencies have put in place plans to provide aid and relief to the vulnerable people across the province. He added a number of districts also have the strategic reserves in place.

However, the PC members claim these so-called strategic reserves are nothing, but empty compounds.
