PUL-I-ALAM (SW): The road leading to eastern Logar’s restive district Azra has finally been cleared of militants after eight long years, officials said on Thursday.
Officials told SW that at first, the law enforcement agencies conducted clean-up operations against the militants and then the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) helped re-construct the road connecting this district to the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam.
Mohammad Salim Saleh, the Spokesman for the Provincial Governor said that general public can now move with liberty on this road without any fear of the militants. “More than eighty percent of the development work has been finished, it would be officially inaugurated soon”, he said.
Shahzada Tauhid, a resident on the eastern Azra district said people feel happy about the development. Brid. Gen. Abdul Raziq Safi, a local Afghan National Army (ANA) Commander added that the army plans to erect a number of check posts on the 56 kilometer long highway connecting Azara to the provincial capital.
Azra is located in the eastern part of the province and is at around 140 km from the capital Kabul. The district is geographically isolated from the capital of Logar.
