KABUL (SW): The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) was established in the year 2006 with only 50 students enrolled. Today, it offers diverse courses to more than 1700 full and part-time students from across Afghanistan.
According to the AUAF, the university has produced 29 Fulbright Scholars, and it maintains partnerships with the world’s most prestigious universities such as Stanford University, Georgetown University, and the University of California network. The AUAF website has a short introduction video about all the AUAF has achieved as ‘the pioneer of modern education’ in the country.
Ahmad Amin Noori, 4th year Business Administration (BBA) student, says the university is a place for growth for the elite. “I always wanted to study software engineering in one of the prestigious universities in the world, but I did not have the money to pay hefty fees. My cousin told me about the AUAF, I could not believe that such a university with its modern equipment and facilities exist in Afghanistan until I saw it myself”, recalls Noori.
According to Noori, competition is tough at the AUAF as the students are competitive in their field of studies, and are very intelligent. Enrolment at the AUAF requires language proficiency. Every student should have the required Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score, and the school marks exceeding 75 per cent. Noori also praises the rich library that AUAF has, and the effective teaching methods.
Ahmad Amin Noori, further adds that the university helped him think positively about the future, and enshrined a sense of leadership in his vision for the practical life. “AUAF is the production house of the future leaders of Afghanistan, it is the university for those who think differently”, believes Noori.
