SHEBERGHAN (SW): Rahmatullah Ashr, Darzab district chief in northern Jawzjan province has said that some 94 youngsters have tried to commit suicide in the province last year.
He told journalists on Tuesday that this number included both men and women who tried to take their lives in the course of this time. He noted that 15 individuals lost their lives while the rest were saved during medical treatment after they tried to commit suicide.
He blamed social and economic problems as the main causes for such an alarming number of suicide attempts in Jawzjan.
Maghferat Samimi, Head of the Independent Human Rights Commission in the province, while expressing his deep concerns over the growing number of suicide cases among the youth, told Salam Watandar that insecurity, poverty, domestic violence and forced marriages have been causing serious troubles. She urged upon the government to take effective approach regarding this phenomenon.
