KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Security officials in Kunduz have said three pro-Taliban insurgents have been arrested as they were digging tunnels to attack two army outposts in the province.
Bashir Ahmad Fedayi, an Afghan National Army (ANA) officer at the Imam Sahib district, told Salam Watandar these three insurgents were arrested on Friday from the Ismail village of the district. He added the men were digging the tunnels, one of which stretched up to 170 meters and another some 70 meters, close to an ANA outpost.
According to the ANA officer, the three militants who are believed to be brothers were busy digging the tunnels since past two weeks. “The tunnels starts from a residential house in the Imam Sahib district”, informed Fedayi.
Amanullah Qureshi, the chief of Imam Sahib District, has confirmed the incident. He added the Taliban militants were not only digging these tunnels to attack the ANA, but they are also busy establishing their own outposts.
