JALALABAD (SW): Besides claiming six lives, Wednesday’s deadly attack on the Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) in Jalalabad city has also damaged to the archives, machinery and the building itself.
Amenullah Zaheer, director for RTA in Nangahar, told Salam Watandar the attack claimed by Daesh has destroyed the archives completely. Without going into specific details, he said the financial losses are in hundreds of thousands of afghanis. At least six vehicles of the station are also damaged.
A number of nearby shops and markets have also sustained losses. Haji Dad Gul, an owner of a commercial center that got damaged due to the attack, said he estimated his loss to be around one million afghanis. Nazifullah, a local shopkeeper, informed his goods worth AFN 300, 000 got damaged.
The provincial government has tasked a team to investigate the financial losses in a bid to compensate those who lost their livelihoods. Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor, said resuming the transmissions of the RTA in Nangarhar and fixing the station are their top priorities. He said the civilians who suffered losses would be compensated in the second phase.
Daesh has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack that claimed ten lives including four attackers.
