KABUL (SW) – The public gathering to mark 24th death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari came under mortar attack on Thursday killing at least three people.
Eyewitnesses told Salam Watandar at least 24 mortar shells hit the venue of ‘Musala-e-Shaheed Mazari’ and nearby homes during the ceremony attending by leading politicians.
Nusrat Rahimi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, has said the attackers had gathered at a residential home in the vicinity of 6th police district, which was later sealed by the police.
A list of victims issued by the Estiqlal Public Hospital indicated three people got killed and 17 more got injured in this attack.
Based on the reports, presidential candidate Abdul Lateef Pidram and a number of guards of another presidential candidate, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, got injured. Women and children are among the injured.
