MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW): Atta Mohammad Noor on Saturday returned to the governor house in Balkh province 12 days after the President approved his controversial resignation.
Chairing a meeting of the provincial administration, the deposed governor said he would remain on the post as long as the Presidential Palace and his Jamiat-e-Islami party reach an agreement on the matter. Noor announced to have handed over his authority to the deputy governor in a bid to ensure functions of the government run smoothly.
He went on to pronounce his unseating as a ‘conspiracy’, and charged a circle within the government for collaborating with the Taliban and pro-Daesh militants in northern parts of the country.
Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the Presidential Palace and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on this matter, but to no avail.
Two weeks ago, The IDLG announced that the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has approved the resignation of Noor, and has appointed Engineer Dawood as the new governor. However, Noor rejected it, saying his resignation was conditional with the demands his party Jamiat proposed to the President, and as the conditions were not meant, the resignation is no more valid.
