KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Salvation and Stability Council has warned Russia not to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal matters.
Abdul Rab Rassule Sayaf, chairman of the ASSC, told the gathering marking the 25th anniversary of the Victory of the Mujahidin that those neighboring countries supporting the rebels in Afghanistan would face its consequences. He said the victory of the Mujahidin over the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan also saved many other countries from destruction, and those countries should be thankful for it.
Sayaf said Russia owes a big deal to each and every Afghan family for the Soviet forces’ atrocities hence it should refrain from repeating its mistakes. Sayaf hailed the international community’s efforts for peace and rebuilding in Afghanistan, but regretted that peace remains a distant dream for Afghans.
Mohmmad Umer Daudzai, former interior minister, said on the occasion the locals have seen Russian agents meeting the Taliban in Helmand province. Daudzai urged the government to take serious notice of these reports.
At the end, the ASSC adopted a resolution urging the government to ensure timely elections for the district councils and the parliament.
