KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Salvation Alliance has warned to boycott the forthcoming elections if a commander of the local uprising militia is not freed by the security forces.
Nezamuddin Qaisari, a commander of the local uprising militia and interim police chief for the Qaisar district in Faryab province, was taken into custody by the security forces following a troubled security meeting in Maimana, provincial capital, last night, and moved to Kabul.
In a statement, the ASA noted it would boycott the forthcoming district and parliamentary elections and launch civic agitation movements nationwide if Qaisari is not released.
This comes as many of Qaisari’s Junbish-e-Islami party took to the streets in Faryab against his arrest. One such protestor, Mohammad Naeem, told Salam Watandar the commander of the local uprising militia was fighting against the Taliban without any perk or privilege from the government, and if he is not freed the protests would continue.
Abdul Baqi Hashimi, member of the provincial council in Faryab, has warned to hand-over more than 50 check posts to the Taliban if Qaisari is not released soon. Hashmatullah, an armed commander of Qaisari, warned the Taliban would overrun all villages if Qaisari is not released.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense, has made it clear legal procedures would be completed in the case of Qaisari. Mohammad Radmanesh, spokesman for the MoD, said enough security forces are stationed in Faryab to ensure peace and security.
