KABUL (SW): A concert by Aryana Saeed, a famous female singer along with other prominent artists will be held on 19th August, to celebrate Afghan Independence Day, in Kabul Stadium, but right from the beginning the concert has been opposed by the clergymen (Mullahs) of the country.
The clergymen warned that the government should stop the concert otherwise ‘every action is followed by a reaction’.
Ataullah Faizani, chairman of Kabul’s Ulema Council (Religious Council), told Salam Watandar that the government should halt the concert, and if the Kabul hosts the concert, the government will be challenged. He emphasized that the concert is not going to be held 100% and the unconditional assumption that the concert will not be held, even if it is held, the situation will be critical getting out of the control of the government. He added that their ban is not merely for the Aryana Sayeed concert, and in the future, the Council will oppose such concerts.
But, Afghan artist Aryana Sayeed, can be seen in a video circulation on social media saying that the music has always been negatively seen by the mullahs, while such concerts are held for the joy of the country's war-weary people. "In times of stability and security music finds itself in a community. It is better to seek the happiness of the people during war and insecurity", justified Sayeed in a meeting with clergymen.
She emphasized that ‘in any case, the concert will be held and nobody can hinder it’.
It is said that the benefits of the concert will be given to the survivors of recent terror attacks in the country.
This is not the first time that the mullahs oppose concerts and music festivals. Opposition to music in Afghanistan has a long history. During Hamid Karzai's government, the former President also opposed the music in a few cases. A month ago, the Samangan and Bamiyan Ulema Council opposed the holding of a music festival, and five years ago in Herat, a cleric prevented, Shafiq Murid, a well-known Afghan singer’s concert.
