JALALABAD (SW): Authorities in eastern Nangarhar province have confirmed that few arrests have been made in the Nangarhar University (NU) in connection with a protest in which militants’ flags were hoisted.
Saleem Kunduzi, Governor of Nangarhar told journalists in the provincial capital that the security forces have conducted a raid on the students’ hostel and have arrested some 27 students blamed for hoisted the flags and chanting pro-rebels slogans. The governor added that some students even had material that proved they were in regular contact with the armed rebels.
Kunduzi informed that among the arrested men include students from Badakhshan, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Laghman, Logar and Nangarhar provinces. He asserted that if the allegations of alliance with the militants proved, no one would be spared under any circumstances.
The governor also said that a delegation in line with the Presidential decree from Kabul too has arrived to further probe the matter.
Last week, a number of NU students took to the streets against the officials for delaying their stipend for six months. During the protest, some participants hoisted the Taliban and Daesh flags and chanting pro-militant slogans that irked the authorities and caused uproar across the country.
