Arms stolen from ANP’s depot in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW): Large cache of small and medium-size weapons have been stolen from the Afghan National Police (ANP)’s depot in Takhan province.

A well-placed source informed Salam Watandar that the arms have been stolen from the ANP’s depot in Kulfgan district. The source informed a rocket launcher, four machineguns and a number of other arms were stolen from this depot on Thursday.

Abdul Satar, the district police chief, while acknowledging these reports, said the exact number of stolen arms is not known yet. He added four people have been taken into custody in connection with this matter. Those taken into custody for investigation include the relevant police company’s training commander, commander and two policemen.

Meanwhile, Syed Jahangir Karamat, the chief for security at the provincial police headquarters, has said only two Kalashnikovs have been stolen, and further investigations into the incident are underway.
