Armed outlaws hindering aid to the IDPs in Kandahar

30/01/2017

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) has blamed local elders and armed men in Kandahar for trying to exploit aid earmarked for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the province.

Masoud Pashtun, head of provincial chapter of the ANDMA, told Salam Watandar some local elders and armed men are trying to loot aid earmarked for the deserving IDPs by posing as IDPs. “When we rejected their ‘false’ claims, the local elders and warlords have denied us access to the sites for the IDPs for surveys”, added Pashtun.

But, Samim Khpalwak, provincial governor’s spokesman, has rejected the claims made by the provincial ANDMA. He asserted armed outlaws do not have the capacity to hinder delivery of aid to the IDPs in the province.

Meanwhile, the IDPs have urged aid agencies and the government to proceed transparently with the distribution of aid to the deserved and needy ones. At least 8 thousand families are displaced due to insecurity in Kandahar and adjacent provinces.
