ARG warns social media users against faking decrees

KABUL (SW): The ARG (Presidential Palace) has warned the social media users in Afghanistan against faking or distorting the content of official documents and decrees.

The use of social media, especially Facebook has recently been ubiquitous in the country. Many social media users have taken the liberty of it and have been criticizing social and political affairs through the social media.

Many users post decrees released by high-ranking officials on their Facebook pages to establish their point or argument.

A statement released by ARG on its Facebook’s page has said that some social media users by misusing technology, distort information and publish them in wrong way.

The statement said that publishing such information no matter what the reason, is inappropriate and can mislead the citizens.

It has urged on the users to remove the fake and distorted information from their pages.

The statement added that the users have are morally obliged to offer their apologies for publishing things which have never been true and are only based on the wrong information they have achieved.

It further said that the government hopes that the use of media evolves into something more effective in collaboration with the citizens so that everybody can effectively enjoy freedom of expression.

ARG regularly posts most of the President’s statements or activities on its Facebook page which has nearly 1 million followers.
