KABUL (SW): A meeting between representatives of the Presidential Palace (Arg) and the Jamiat-e-Islami party over Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation was held today (Tuesday).
According to sources, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Masoom Stanekzai, and Salam Rahimi represented the Arg while Salahuddin Rabbani, Mohaiudin Mahdi, Sattar Murad, and Waqif Hakimi were representing the JI party. A source who did not want to be named, said the talks were over the appointment of representatives of JI to head two more ministries, two embassies of Afghanistan abroad, one governor of a province and a police chief.
According to the source, only the demands of the JI were heard in the meeting today, and the two sides will continue to discuss the issue in further sessions.
Salahuddin Rabbani also met with Abdullah Abdullah, the CEO of the National Unity Government, last night to discuss these issues. According to sources, the CEO insisted on peaceful resolution of the rift between JI and the Arg.
Meanwhile, Atta Mohammad Noor, the executive director of JI party, once again said today ‘the people within the government’ have plans to destabilize Balkh province. Addressing a gathering today, Noor went on to say members of National Security Council and National Security Agencies are ‘hosting and arming outlawed men’.
