PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Militants have blown-up an ancient Sufi shrine in the eastern Logar province on Monday, an official said.
The shrine of “Saint Shah Khilwati” is said to date back some five hundred years. Mohammad Saleem Salihi, spokesman for the provincial governor, told SW that the incident took place in Sarkh district. He added that the militants blew the place with explosives.
He claimed Shah Khilwati was father of the Sufis resting in neighboring Paktia, Ghazni and Kabul. Over a month ago, similar incident took place in central Maidan Wardak province when the militants blew-up a Sufi shrine there.
The so called Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS) that is more commonly known as Daesh has committed similar acts in the Arab world but their supporters in Afghanistan have not claimed responsibility for blowing the shrines in Afghanistan.
There are a numbers of Sufi shrines across the Afghanistan that are frequented by devotees. Located south east of Kabul, Logar is home to ancient "Mes Aynak" site that was once home to a thriving Budhist civilization.
