KABUL (SW): Shakib Mustaghni, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Tuesday Pakistan and Afghanistan have finalized an "Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity".
Mustaghni informed Salam Watandar the plan operationalizes the six working groups for cooperation in different fields. Accordingly, both sides agreed that effective and full implementation of the action plan would contribute towards the common objectives of eliminating terrorism and achieving peace, stability, prosperity and development of the people of the two countries
For the finalization of the plan, the delegations were led by Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai and Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.
Analysts remain divided over this plan.
Mohibullah Sharif, an analyst on strategic affairs, believed since Pakistan is under immense international pressure, it is pursuing a dual-face policy to distract attention away, and reach targets. He, however, stressed the full and sincere implementation of this plan would also benefit Afghanistan.
Faiz Mohammad Zaland, another analyst, argued this plan is mediated by the U.S. and Pakistan has more to gain. He added Afghanistan hopes Pakistan would help bring the Taliban to the negotiation table, but this would never happen. Zaland claimed Pakistan aims to win the ongoing war in Afghanistan for the past many years with this plan.
