KABUL (SW): Following surprise triumph of Donald Trump in the US Presidential Elections, a number of Afghan analysts said they do not see a major shift of US policy towards Afghanistan.
The Republican candidate secured 289 electoral votes against the Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 218 to become the 45th US President. Qayoom Sajadi, member of the foreign affairs commission at the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), told Salam Watandar that the US foreign policy towards Afghanistan is not likely to witness a major change regardless of whoever wins. Pointing towards Donald Trump’s views on Muslims and minorities in the US, Sajadi added that the incumbent is likely to resolve the differences between the Muslim world and the US.
Firdaws Kawash, another commentator on political affairs, said that Afghanistan’s security is essential for the Americans; hence they would not cut down military and civilian aid.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah have congratulated Trump on becoming President of the U.S. The Taliban militants, in a message, have urged upon the new U.S. President to recall all American soldiers from Afghanistan.
