Analysts predict more violent attacks

KABUL (SW): Military affairs experts fear if the National Unity Government (NUG) failed to address its shortcomings in regard to security affairs, much more violent terrorist attacks would hit the country in the coming days and months.

This comes as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) underscored the need to bring the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the attack on Sardar Dawood Khan Hospital to justice. In a statement issued Thursday, the 15-member Security Council stressed that terrorism in all its forms is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation and wherever, whenever and by whomsoever it is committed. “It should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group,” UNSC emphasized.

Zalmay Wardak, an analyst on defense affairs, told Salam Watandar it is quite regrettable that the NUG leaders are still engaged in internal rift, and have failed to ensure security of the citizens. He feared if urgent and effective steps are not taken for security, things might get out of hands.

Kabul Khan, another expert, noted not enough has been invested to strengthen intelligence networks of the security forces. He also highlighted interference in security affairs by the parliamentarians, corruption, dearth of expertise among the security forces and vague system of recruitment among the security forces as reasons behind the poor and fragile security in the country.
