Analysts criticize government’s indifference towards victims of terrorism

KABUL (SW): Days after the horrific attack on an Afghan National Police (ANP) convoy, analysts believe the government’s response towards the incident and the victims was not up to the mark.

Three days ago, 32 fresh cadets were killed in two suicide attacks. This incident was one of the deadliest incidents in recent months.

President Mohammad Ashraf Gani, 24 hours after the incident, left for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. A number of civil society activists said that the President preferred Umrah over comforting the victims’ families, which was a wrong choice.

Daud Naji, a civil activist, told Salam Watandar that the President, instead of performing Umrah should have visited the bereaved mothers who lost their sons in the incident. He emphasized that it hurts the citizens when the government leaders ignore to comfort the victims’ families. He added that tens of families have been mourning over the death of their loved ones, and they expect the government to console and comfort them.

Bari Salam, another civil society activist, said that the leaders’ indifference towards such a tragedy is questionable. He said that the citizens would run out of patience with the government if situation persisted.
