KABUL (SW): The U.S. Embassy Special Chargé d'Affaires Ambassador Hugo Llorens said in a press briefing here in Kabul on Thursday that the new strategy for Afghanistan is to fight Taliban, Daesh and any other terrorist group which is considered a threat to Afghanistan.
He called on the Afghan government to fight corruption in the security institutions and completely eradicate the phenomenon.
Hugo Llorens, on the new strategy for Afghanistan, said that the strategy pushes the Taliban to stop fighting as soon as possible and join the peace process. He said that in the strategy, Pakistan is asked not to hesitate in destroying terrorist hideouts.
At the presser, General John Nicholson, the commander of NATO, stressing to fight terrorists said U.S. is standing alongside the Afghan security forces and will help the security forces especially the air force.
He added that according to a new strategy for Afghanistan, the level of international support for the Afghan security forces will increase, and the repression of insurgent groups, including the Taliban, will be further enhanced. He insists that the Taliban have no choice, but to come to the dialogue table. Gen. Nicholson insisted that the fight against terrorism is decisive, and Afghanistan will no longer be a safe haven for terrorism.
The president of the United States declared the new US strategy for Afghanistan at the Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, 2 days ago. The strategy is designed to strengthen the security forces needed to fight for a Taliban retreat both in Pakistan and in Afghanistan. The priority of the strategy is not to strengthen the Afghan government, but to focus on the fight against terrorism and security in the region.
