FAIZABAD (SW): Members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) have physically abused officials at the provincial administration in Badakhshan province.

It is said the ALP men had come here to get the governor’s approval for an offensive to reclaim the Warduj district, but after waiting for hours for a meeting with the governor the angry members of the local police lashed out at the clerks and provincial administration building before leaving.

Mawlawi Muhaeuddin, a member of the ALP from Warduj, told Salam Watandar the provincial administration has been turning down repeated requests for military operation in the area against the militants for the past two years. He said the ALP men waited for too long, and when the governor declined to meet them, they protested. Muhaeuddin said the ALP men went out of control of the guards at the provincial administration, and things went soar.

Ziaur Rehman, a guard at the provincial administration, said in this regard that the ALP men broke the entrance door, and started beating the clerks and guards. A well-placed source informed that the governor and his deputy left the office before the angry ALP men enter the capital Faiz Abad city.

After the incident, situation got tense with the law enforcement agencies coming on to the streets. Journalists also waited for hours outside the office of the governor to have his views, but were not briefed about the situation. Warduj district in Badakhshan has been under the influence of the Taliban for the past three years now. Many of the residents from Warduj have fled to Baharak district and provincial capital Faiz Abad.
