KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Local officials in Kunduz have said the Taliban militants ‘burned’ seven members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) to death.
The incident is said to have occurred in the Kocha Qazaq area on the Kunduz City-Ali Abad highway early on Thursday. Mehfoozullah Akbari, spokesman for the Afghan National Police (ANP) in the northeastern zone, said group of the militants stormed an outpost of the ALP.
He said the policemen were asleep in an empty cargo container when the militants set it ablaze. Akbari said two more policemen got wounded in the assault. He asserted the militants had the support of an ‘infiltrator’ for this attack.
Meera Gul, commander of the ALP force in the area, was not present when the Taliban stormed the outpost. He said seven of his men were first shot dead, and then the container was set ablaze.
Zabehullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, has acknowledged the attack. He claimed to have taken away cache of arms and ammunitions as well.
