SHEBERGHAN (SW): A number of Afghan Local Police (ALP) commanders in Jawzjan province have warned they would surrender to the militants if the government fails to back them.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, the ALP commanders said the government’s inaction against militants in the restive Qosh Tapa, Naw Abad and Darzab districts have allowed the militants to re-group and get stronger. They also lamented lack of supplies and support for them.
Sher Ali, an ALP commander in Qosh Tapa, said if the government failed to launch a military operation against the militants in a month, he along with his companions would surrender to the armed rebels. “It is a unanimous decision of 200 ALP men that the government should launch military operation or we are going to surrender”, he said.
Meanwhile, Rehmatullah Turkistani, security chief for the province, admits that the security situation in Qosh Tapa and Darzab districts is fragile. He, however, vowed that soon a clean-up operation against the militants would be launched in the restive parts of the province. “We have a plan to launch a military operation in Qosh Tapa and Darzab districts with the support of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shaheen Corps”, he said.
