KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Complaint Commission announced here on Thursday all vote cast in Kabul for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) polls are illegitimate.
Addressing a presser, Ali Reza Rouhani, IECC spokesman, said this decision has been made following thorough investigations in to the process. He noted glitches with the devices for biometric verification, more than 3000 complaints, and allegations of rigging are some of the matters that compelled the IECC to declare all votes as illicit.
It is worth noticing a number of electoral commission employees have been sacked and fined for negligence of duty in Kabul.
Among them include Ahmad Shah Zamanzay, secretary for the Independent Election Commission, Awalur Rehman Rodwal, former head of the IEC in Kabul, Zmaray Qalamyar, regional operation manager of the IEC, Abdul Aziz Samim, deputy regional head of operations, and Syed Ibrahim Sadat, director information technology at the IEC.
According to the IECC spokesman, poor management and violation of the rules are the reasons behind sacking of these individuals.
The IECC has completed its review of the complaints into the polls, however, the IEC is yet to announce its stance in this regard. Based on the rules, when votes of one constituency are declared void, the electoral commission shall hold elections there again in a week’s time.
In Kabul, up to 804 candidates were running for the 33 seats of the Wolesi Jirga.
