KABUL (SW): The Afghan government is set to host the second round of the Kabul Process international conference in the capital city on Wednesday.
The Kabul Process is aimed at reaching an international consensus for the Afghan-led Afghan-owned peace process. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of up to 25 countries and international organizations would attend the KP II in Kabul.
Shakib Mustaghni, spokesman for the MoFA, informed in this regard that the government would present its strategy for peace with the militants at this conference. “The main agenda of this conference is to discuss the prospects of peace in the country as well as attracting international support for this, and the second point is matters related to the war against terrorism”.
He said that the ministers and deputy ministers of foreign affairs from as many as 25 countries including the U.S. the U.K. Germany, France, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Iran and others would take part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, analysts are skeptical about the prospects of the Kabul Process. Waheed Mujda, one such analyst, informed Salam Watandar that the Taliban are not willing to talk to the Afghan government. “The Taliban are of the opinion that the Afghan government is a weak government, and is under the influence of the foreigners”, he said, adding that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has himself confessed that the Kabul government cannot survive for long without the international support.
The first round of the KP was held on June 06 last year in which participants endorsed the government’s efforts for peace talks, anti-terrorism measures and negotiations with Pakistan.
