23/12/2015

LASHKARGAH (SW): The Helmand Civil Society Organization said on Thursday that all but two districts in the province are facing war-like situation in the province.

After days of intense fighting, the Taliban have claimed full control over the restive Sangin province.

Head of the CSO, Sardar Mohammad Hamdard has blamed the incompetence of local administration and over-sighted policies of the Kabul government for the worsening situation.

He went on to say that the latest changes made in the security apparatus in the province have yielded no fruits.

Sardar Mohammad Hamdard feared that if situation remained as it is, the two relatively peaceful districts of Garmsir and Nawai-i-Barakzai too would engulf in the conflict.

The Provincial CSO’s head noted that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) was not getting supplies and salaries on time. He informed that the raging conflict has led to a number of civilian casualties and displacements.

A day earlier, Mohammad Masoum Stanekzai, the Acting Defense Minister, said that fighting has entered an intense phase in Helmand.

Speaking to a press conference here in Kabul, he said that there was no denying the fact that there exist a lot of problems in Helmand but the problems are not as much as reflected in the media.

He assured that situation in Helmand, in particular in Sangin district has not got out of security forces’ control. Stanikzai added that security operations have been conducted in a number of areas in Helmand and would soon change the situation in the province.

Flanked by Noorul Haq Oloomi, Minister of Interior, Stanikzai vowed that the Afghan National Army (ANA) in coordination with the Afghan National Police (ANP) would flush the Taliban out of Sangin.

Minister of Interior, assured that security forces would fight the militants and would do their best to ensure security in the country.
