HERAT CITY (SW): Kamran Alizayi, head of Herat’s provincial council, in a press conference on Saturday in Herat has blamed the governor of the province for corruption.

Kamran Alizayi stated that the governor of Herat is highly corrupt and lacks administrative skills resulting in the detreating security of the province. According to Alizayi the military council of the province does not have any plans to overcome the Taliban since the past two years. “The governor is chairing the provincial military council where he only organizes meaningless meetings”, blamed Alizayi.

The head of provincial council further said that he possess documents indicating nepotism and corruption in the provincial Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) which he threatened to disclose to general public.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Asif Rahimi, the governor of Herat, rejecting the allegations said local governance authorities comply with laws. “The allegations by Alizayi are baseless. The provincial IDLG functions on legal bases, but we will look into allegations made by the head of provincial council as well”, justified Rahimi.

This comes as Kamran Alizayi was recently sentenced to 8 months imprisonment for corruption and abuse of power by a primary court. The appeal court has granted Kamran Alizayi bail till final decision is made on his case.
