KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has called for the need to up hold justice in brokering a peace deal with any rebel group.
Dr. Rafiullah Bedar, spokesman for the AIHRC told Salam Watandar that the peace deal should not be marred by petty politics and justice should not be comprised for political wheeling and dealing. He stressed that the AIHRC is for peace in the country but it should not be at an extremely heavy price.
The AIHRC spokesman underlined that whatever rebel group is willing to shun violence and join the peace process must adhere to the Constitution and respect the gains made in the past many years. He noted that education, freedom of speech, political representation and right to work are such gains that needs to be protected.
Beedar also called for the need to have the opinions of the affected families, particularly women, in regard to peace deal with the rebel groups.
Rumors have it that the government is close to a peace deal with the Hezb-i-Islami of the former Prime Minister Gulbudin Hekmatyar. The AIHRC has casted doubts over the nature and has underlined that those involved in mass violations cannot be pardoned without doing justice.
A number of analysts agree with the idea of having the victims onboard in terms of brokering a peace deal.
Ajmal Hodman, a legal affairs’ expert, told Salam Watandar that justice should be supreme and it should also be applied upon those in power and those willing to shun violence alike. Hodman has called upon the AIHRC to publish their findings into the war crimes committed in Afghanistan that has the names of a number of individuals currently enjoying power.
The AIHRC has noted that the Afghan government has come short in stopping the warlords and influential people from committing gross human rights violations.
