KABUL (SW): Efforts are underway to defuse tension between the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah after the cold war of words.
Syed Fazil Sancharki, the Advisor on Culture Affairs to the CEO, has confirmed that men close to the two leaders are busy in defusing the tension and paving the way for a resolution.
He told Salam Watandar that Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the National Security Advisor paid a visit at the CEO office and met with Abdullah Abdullah. He added that the two spoke about ways and means to resolve the crisis.
On Thursday, CEO Abdullah publicly criticized President Ghani for monopolizing the governance and not giving him the time and space in the affairs of the National Unity Government (NUG). This was followed by a statement from the Arg (Presidential Palace) that denounced Abdullah’s remarks and said it violated the spirit of governance and its principles. Ghani said that he cannot trust someone who has no confidence in him.
Sancharki said that the two leaders are yet to meet in person. He added that Abdullah and Ghani would meet after their respective representatives pave the way for it.
