GHOR (SW) – Residents and members of the Ghor Provincial Council claim the food aid meant for needy people here has been sold in the open market.
Abdul Basir Qaderi, a member of the Ghor Provincial Council, told Salam Watandar that the local authorities linked with the World Food Program in the province distributed the aid among families who did not deserved it. Qaderi said the materials including flour, oil and wheat are sold in the Ghor market.
Two such Ghor residents, Nazar Mohammad and Sultan Ahmad, said the aid has been snatched by those who had ties and power to negate the needy ones. They urged the government to ensure fair distribution of aid in the province among needy families.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, promised to form a fact-finding commission to look into the matter.
Humayoun, local coordinator for the WFP in Ghor, regretted that the local councils sold the aid material in open markets instead of delivering them to the needy families.
This comes as hundreds of families have moved to Feroz Koh city in Ghor due to drought and conflict in the surrounding areas.
