KABUL (SW) – Ajmal Ahmadi, chairman of the central bank ‘Da Afghanistan Bank’ has been at the receiving end of criticism over his blocking of a number of journalists on twitter.
The former cabinet minister and presidential adviser came in the spotlight following reports about him receiving up to $ 500 a day when he was senior presidential adviser on finance and banking. The publication of this report led to plenty of fingers pointing at him.
Zaki Daryabi, the managing director of the ‘Etilat-e-Roz’ newspaper, which published the report, claimed on his Twitter page that he had been blocked by Ahmadi. According to Daryabi, the DAB chairman not only blocked all his critics, but undermines all laws and regulations.
According to the report, unlike other local advisers – who receive salaries in local currency – Ahmadi has been receiving salary in dollars and there is no evidence to prove what he did during his tenure as a presidential adviser.
Senior journalist Sami Mehdi said in this regard that he had asked Ahmadi to publish a video of his "unwanted" meeting with Ghaffar Davi, a New Kabul Bank shareholder at the DBA, but after this request, Ahmadi blocked Sami Mehdi.
Haroon Najafizadeh, a London-based reporter for Iran International, said that he too has been blocked by Ajmal Ahmadi. Najafizadeh said that after this tweet about Ahmadi having account in the Bank of America, he was blocked.
Those blocked by Ahmadi say they would not be silent in the face of this trend as blocking of critics by government officials promotes censorship.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Afghanistan Ross Wilson has also criticized Ajmal Ahmadi's actions.
