KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Economy on Monday inked agreements for 11 people-centric projects worth $ 9.5 million with the Government of India.
These projects come under the ambit of community based Small Development Projects SDP aimed at building capacities and capabilities of Afghan nationals and institutions for governance and delivery of public services socio-economic infrastructure, security and promoting livelihood options.
Chief executive officer, Abdullah Abdullah, was present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mustafa Mastoor, minister for MoE, said these projects would help eradicate poverty and stop the economic migration. According to the officials, the tripartite agreements were signed between the Government of India and the Ministry of Economy and various implementing ministries such as the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Energy and Water, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
The projects include construction of classrooms, building orphanages, health clinics, canal protection walls, retaining walls and also enhancing economic opportunities for women in Kabul, Balkh, Ghor, Bamyan, Kapisa, Herat and Badghis.
Since 2001 India has undertaken projects and programs for over USD 2 billion in Afghanistan. In 2016 India pledged additional 1 billion for next five years. Most of such projects are underway or at the procurement process. India has expressed committed to take India – Afghanistan development partnership forward in accordance with national priorities of the Afghan government.
