KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said Afghans want a sustainable peace, not peace of few days alone.

In a video message on the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet forces, Ghani said Afghans deserve to have pride in the Jehad backed by all segments of the society and the international community against the invading Soviet forces.

He said lessons from the history guide reforms for present and future. He said at this critical juncture in history, Afghanistan want a sustainable peace. He said the forces of criminal economy and foreign meddling are afraid from stability and peace in Afghanistan.

He said no one in Afghanistan would buy the imposed war as a legitimate war anymore

Addressing a moot in this connection, second vice president, Sarwar Danish, said all efforts for peace guaranteeing the continuation of state building process are welcomed. He charged the Taliban for peddling a foreign agenda.

The Soviet forces invaded Afghanistan in 1979 resulting in deadly conflict claiming millions of lives and displacing many more. The Red Army left the country a decade later on 15 February 1989.
