RIO DE JANEIRO (SW): Afghanistan would formally begin its quest for medal at the ongoing Rio Olympics on Thursday.

According to the schedule published by the organizers of the Rio 2016, the Afghan judo master Taufiq Bakhshi would compete on Thursday in the 100kg Judo category. His opponent is Portugal’s George Fonseka. This match would be aired live at 1:00 am Afghanistan time.

A victory in this game would allow Taufiq Bakhsi to join 32 best players in this category competing for the medals.

It is vital to note Afghanistan only managed to join these games thanks to the wild card entry. Only three Afghan players are competing at the Rio 2016. Besides Taufiq Bakhshi, the other two are Kemya Yousufi and Abdul Wahab Zahiri who would compete at the athletics.

At the end of fourth day in Rio de Janeiro, the US team is leading with a total of 26 medals that included nine Gold. On the second slot is China with a total of 17 medals that include 8 Gold. The third place is occupied by Hungary with a total of 6 medals that include 4 Gold.

The legendary US swimmer Michael Phelps has managed to grab three Gold medals for his country at the Rio 2016 so far. With this, the record-breaking Phelps has extended his tally to 21 Olympic gold medals.
