Afghanistan’s quest for 2018 FIFA World Cup continues

Phnom Penh (SW): Afghanistan bagged a distinct victory over Cambodia during its qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Both teams faced each other in Cambodia’s capital on Tuesday (June 16). The Afghan squad that is ranked 151, 27 a head of Cambodia secured the victory during the last moments of the game.

Mostafa Zazai managed to score a goal 86 minute into the game. In the first half of the game, Afghan players put a lot of pressure over the Cambodian team but to no avail. In the second half of the game too, Afghan players tried to put pressure on the opposing team but lost a many promising opportunities to score.

Though, Cambodian team was mostly on the offensive Afghanistan’s defense line denied them any chance to goal.

Earlier, Afghanistan lost to Syria with a clear margin of 0-6 in a match played in Mashad, Iran. The Afghan squad would now face Asian giant Japan on 8th September and Singapore on 8th October.
