KABUL (SW): The Central Statistics Organization reported a rise in Afghanistan’s exports in 1396 Solar year (2017-2018).

During the first nine months of the 1396 solar year, the export value has reached more than $600 million, while the exports’ value in the first nine months of the previous year (1395) was about $481 million, the officials said.

Hasibullah Mohed, deputy director of CSO said that as export increased by 39 percent last year, import volumes also increased significantly.

According to Mohed, in the first nine months of 1396, Afghanistan has imported goods valued about $5.485 billion, while the import in the preceding year (1395) has reached $4.76 billion only.

Khanjan Alakozai, deputy head of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) said exports of fresh fruits and vegetables during the last nine months of 1396 was about $200 million.

Carpets, precious stones, fresh and dried fruits, vegetables, non-alcoholic beverages, and medicinal plants were among the main export items.

However, officials from CSO said the opening of the Kabul-Delhi air corridor, Kabul-Mumbai and Kabul-Almaty air corridors have been the reason for the rise of exports in Afghanistan.
