Afghanistan wins Inter-Continental Cup

02/12/2017

KABUL (SW):  Afghanistan thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with ten wickets in the seventh league cricket match to lift the Inter-Continental Cup trophy for the second time.

Spinner Rashid Khan was celebrated as the man of the match with his eight wickets in the match. Century each by captain Asghar Stanikzai, Ehsaullah Janat and Rehmat Shah helped Afghanistan win the match.

Batting first, Afghanistan piled a massive title of 510 runs. The UAE could not chase it in both of their innings combined. In its first innings, the UAE batsmen were restricted by the Afghans to just 196 runs, and in second innings to just 331 runs.  Afghanistan won the match by chasing the given target of 18 runs without losing any wicket to win the cup.

Seven years ago, Afghanistan won the Inter-Continental Cup under Nauroz Mangal by beating Ireland in 2010.

Afghanistan and Ireland would no longer need to compete for the Inter-Continental Cup as the two emerging teams have already won status of a Full Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier this year.

Staying in the UAE, Afghanistan would host Ireland for three One Day International (ODI) matches starting from December 5.
