Afghanistan wins fair play award

KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan has secured second slot in the under-16 Central Asian football championship in Uzbekistan.

According to the Afghanistan Football Federation, the young boys overpowered Kyrgyzstan in the final match with a clear margin of 4-0. A total of four teams from the region namely Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan took part in this championship.

In previous matches, Afghanistan lost to the host Uzbekistan 1-4, but managed to defeat Tajikistan 1-0.

Though, the Afghan squad failed to lift the trophy, however, it was awarded with the fair play award by the organizers.

With three consecutive victories, Uzbekistan was declared the champion followed by Afghanistan on the second place, Tajikistan on the third and Kyrgyzstan on the fourth slot.

In a bid to train hard and prepare for bigger games, Afghanistan joined the Central Asian zone in 2015 quitting the relatively easier South Asian zone. Currently, Iran is the champion of the Central Asian zone while Afghanistan is on the 29^th slot.
