NEW DELHI (SW): Afghanistan whitewashed Ireland in the three-match T20 cricket series following the 28 runs victory in the final match on Sunday.

After winning the toss, Ireland put Afghanistan to bat first on the neutral venue at Greater Noida, India. The Afghans got off a brisk start with flamboyant Mohammad Shahzad hitting two boundaries and six in the first over of the innings. He lost his partner Najeeb Taraki in the third over with just 23 on the board.

But, this did not stop Shahzad who went on to 72 runs on 43 balls that featured 5 sixes and 6 boundaries. As he departed in the 13th over, all-rounder Mohammad Nabi steadied the innings with his quick-fired 89 of just 30 balls featuring 9 massive sixes and 6 boundaries. Afghanistan managed to put on the score board a handsome total of 233 runs in the given 20 overs.

Chasing this target, Ireland got off a promising start with openers PR Stirling and SR Thompson putting together a 50 runs partnership. The Irish middle order, however, let them down. With the exception of captain Gray Wilson who scored 59 no other batsman could resist the Afghan spin and fast bowlers. The whole Irish team got out in the 20th over with 205 on the board.

Mohammad Nabi was crowned as the man of the match and Rashid Khan as the man of the series.
