KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s football team would take on Asian giant Japan in a FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying round on Tuesday.
Due to relative insecurity in the country, the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) would host this match in neighboring Iran’s capital city Tehran. This is the first time Afghanistan would play against a more experienced Japan in an international encounter.
Losing a friendly match to Thailand in Bangkok, the Afghan squad landed in Tehran a day earlier and had a practice session for the big event.
It its group E, Afghanistan is standing on 4th position behind Syria, Singapore and Japan. In previous qualifying matches, Afghanistan lost to Syria and overcame Cambodia to earn 3 points.
