26/03/2018

KABUL (SW): Afghanistan would face Cambodia on Tuesday for its last match of qualifying rounds for the forthcoming Asian Football Championship 2019.

According to the Afghanistan Football Federation, the game would be played in Tajikistan at 03:00 pm. Prior to the match, captains and coaches of the two teams announced their preparedness for the encounter.

Otto Pfister, the German coach for the Afghan side, said on the occasion though the team has no chance to secure place at the AFC 2019, it would at least try to make a mark with improved performance. He said Afghanistan’s team was 90 per cent complete in terms of the technique and motivation, but lacked the 10 per cent chance that could have turned the tides.

Faisal Shayesteh, captain of the national squad, said in his remarks that the defeat against Cambodia in a previous away match was a shock. He said the team is fully prepared to win the home match tomorrow.

In its five latest international encounters, Afghanistan lost three and equalized two matches. Cambodia on the other hand has lost four of its five latest matches to different teams, and has only won against Afghanistan. With its three points, Afghanistan is on the last spot in its group of five teams playing the qualifying rounds of the AFC 2019.

Jordan and Vietnam made it to the AFC from this group.
