ABU DHABI (SW): Afghanistan thrashed Namibia by 66 runs on Thursday to reach to the semi-finals of the ongoing Desert T20 tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This is the third consecutive victory for the Afghan side. In previous encounters, Afghanistan beat Ireland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this third T20 match, Afghanistan won the toss and batted first to score 167 in the given 20 overs.
Thursday’s match was a farewell game for the veteran batsman Nawroz Mangal who has already resumed charge as chief selector. He scored 32 in 25 balls. Samiullah Shinwari was the top scorer with his quick fire 35 in 19 balls. In reply, Namibia was restricted to 103 in the 20th over. Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with his 3 wickets in just 3 overs while conceding only 4 runs. He was crowned as man of the match.
In this ongoing T20 tournament, Scotland would face Oman in the last match of the group stage. Loser of this match would face Afghanistan in the semi-final on Friday, and the winner would play against Ireland in the second semifinal. Final would also be played on the same day.
